Planning for your future

Retirement may still be a long way off ... but planning now makes sense because pensions are a very long-term investment and retirement can mean a significant change in lifestyle.

We have carefully chosen a company called Origen (which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority) to give Railways Pension Scheme members independent financial advice.

Origen

It is recognised that some people want financial advice when they retire. We have carefully chosen a company called Origen (which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority) to give Railways Pension Scheme members independent financial advice. You can visit the Origen website here.

You can also email an independent financial adviser from Origen here.

Independent financial advice

Alternatively you could use another financial adviser to carry out a review of your financial affairs. After the review they will discuss with you your financial goals, such as:

  • arranging a new mortgage;
  • choosing a savings plan;
  • reducing your debts.

They will then prepare a personal report about your financial affairs and send it to you. This will include recommendations of how to achieve your financial goals.

Since the Financial Services Act became law in 1988, financial advisers have to be properly qualified and registered. There are two types of financial adviser, ‘tied’ and ‘independent’. A tied adviser can only recommend investment products from a specific company where an independent adviser can recommend investment products from any company.

Advisers from Origen (the advisers appointed by railway pensions) are independent.

To find a local independent financial adviser you can visit the unbiased.co.uk website here.

Responsible Investment

Responsible Investment encompasses environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations and extends to active voting and engagement on these issues in relation to the companies we invest in.

At RPMI, our approach to responsible investment is founded on a fundamental belief that companies with interested and involved shareholders are more likely to achieve superior long-term financial performance than those without. As asset owner signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI), this now extends to integration of ESG considerations across all asset classes.

You can find further information about responsible investment in the Investments section on our RPMI website.
